Pat Lutz
Founder, Smartatives – Smarter Cosmetic Ingredients
Pat Lutz brings more than 36 years of experience in the cosmetic and personal care industry, with a career distinguished by global expertise in preservative technology, specialty cosmetic ingredients, product innovation, and commercialization.
A recognized specialist in cosmetic preservation, Pat has spent decades developing preservative systems and specialty ingredients designed to address the evolving technical and formulation needs of the global personal care industry. Throughout his career, he has developed numerous patented and trademarked products and is an inventor on more than 15 patents.
Pat was a co-owner of Lincoln Manufacturing, where he played an integral role in building and growing the business into a multimillion-dollar cosmetic ingredient company. His responsibilities extended across technical innovation, new product development, manufacturing, commercialization, customer relationships, and strategic business growth. Lincoln Manufacturing was ultimately acquired by Barentz, a global specialty ingredients distributor.
Pat’s career has taken him around the world, working with customers, formulators, distributors, and industry professionals across international markets. He has delivered technical presentations at cosmetic industry conferences and trade shows globally, sharing his expertise in preservation technology, ingredient development, formulation, and emerging industry trends.
He has also authored numerous articles for cosmetic and personal care industry publications, sharing his technical knowledge and helping educate formulators and other industry professionals on preservation and ingredient technologies.
Following more than three decades of industry experience and the successful growth of Lincoln Manufacturing, Pat founded Smartatives – Smarter Cosmetic Ingredients to develop the next generation of innovative specialty raw materials for the cosmetic and personal care industry.
Smartatives encompasses four focused technology platforms: Smartative, specialized cosmetic ingredients manufactured in ISO-certified facilities; ComplexIQ, intelligently designed complex and blended systems for skin and hair applications; Verolis, natural and naturally derived alternatives; and Preservology – The Science of Preservatives, focused on conventional, alternative, and natural preservation technologies.
